Jan Christiaan Smuts

Continuing the South Africa theme, I've been doing an evening class on the Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902) at Oxford. Jan Christiaan Smuts was one of the Transvaal military leaders. He went on to be Prime Minister of South Africa for 1919-1924 and 1939-1948 - and was the only man to sign the covenants of both the League of Nations (after WWI) and the United Nations (after WWII).
